Change of Name Filed by Attorney

Effective December 20, 2018, a new event was created to file a Change of Name.

Reminder: Registered E filers (attorneys, trustees, & limited filers) should contact the CM/ECF Help Desk @ 312-408-7765 to process a name change.

Warning: This event CANNOT be used to change the name of the entity who owns a claim from one creditor to another. That process requires a Transfer of Claim per BK Rule 3001(e).


If the entire name of the debtor / joint debtor is changing, the filer should attach proper documentation.

This event can be used to file a change of name for the creditor, debtor, joint debtor, or other party.

Step-by-Step Procedures:

    1. Select [Bankruptcy or Adversary>Other]
    2. Enter case number, click Next
    3. The verification screen will display. Verify you are docketing on correct case. If notClosed click the back button to go back to the case number field and re-enter the case number/If yes
    4. Select Change of Name, click Next
    5. Select party from pick list or Add/create new party (if applicable), and click Next
    6. If the association screen displays when the attorney / party association does not exist, determine if association should be created, and click Next
    7. The following reminder will appear, click Next

    1. A warning note will appear, click Next

      2. Individual case, select the appropriate party, and click Next

      Joint case, select the appropriate party, and click Next

    1. Enter the name of the party before change, and click Next

    1. Enter the New Name, and click Next

    1. Browse, View , and Attach pdf , click Next

    1. The Docketing Editing Screen will display. Select the appropriate prefix from the drop down menu if applicable, and click Next

    2. The Final Text screen will display. This is your final opportunity to modify the entry before submitting the filling.

    Adversary

    1. Verify the accuracy of the docket text.  If not correct/if correct
    2. Click Next to complete filing process

    Process Complete

    The Notice of Electronic Filing will display.  It is the verification that the filing has been sent electronically to the court.
